Cross Country Roundup: Solon Finishes Runner-up at Season-opening Anamosa Invite

Class 3A fourth-ranked Solon opened its season with a runner-up finish at the 11-team Anamosa Invitational on Saturday on a warm and muggy morning at Anamosa Middle School.
Three Spartans finished in the top 12 as Solon finished behind Class 4A No. 18 Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the team race.
Sophomore Brick Kabela was fifth in a time of 17:32 and teammate Gabe Hinman was sixth in 17:51 as the Spartans finished with 76 points.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy had three runners in the top 10 led by individual champion Miles Wilson and won the team title with 47 points.
Washington was third with 78 points followed by Class 2A sixth-ranked Mid-Prairie with 94 points and Muscatine with 106.
Sophomore Michael Yeomans was 12th for Solon in 1843 while senior Nolan Pauley was 26th in 19:40 and classmate Ty Becicka was 27th in 19:41.
Ethan McLaughlin finished 29th for the Spartans in a time of 19:50.
