Five Your Prep Sports area girls cross country teams appeared in the preseason rankings released on Tuesday by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.

Regina is the highest ranked team to open the season coming in at fourth in the Class 1A preseason rankings after placing third at the Class 1A state meet last season.

Solon is fifth in the Class 3A rankings following a fifth-place finish at the 3A state meet a year ago.

City High, Liberty High and West High all open the season ranked in the top 20 in Class 4A.

City High is No. 15 in the preseason rankings followed by Liberty High at No. 16 and West High at No. 20.

Top-ranked teams to open the season are Dubuque Hempstead (4A), Ballard (3A), Mid-Prairie (2A) and South Winneshiek (1A).
