City High, Liberty High and Solon will all enter the cross country season ranked in the top five.

All three of those teams earned top-five rankings in the preseason boys cross country rankings released Tuesday by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.

City High opens the season ranked third in Class 5A followed by Liberty High at fourth while West High is 12^th in the initial rankings.

The Little Hawks were eighth at the 4A state meet last season, Liberty High was sixth and West High finished 11^th at state a year ago.

Defending Class 3A runner-up Solon is ranked fourth in the 3A preseason rankings while Clear Creek Amana is No. 13 in 3A.

Top-ranked teams in the preseason rankings are Sioux City North (4A), Dallas Center-Grimes (3A), Danville/New London (2A) and Earlham (1A).
