Callie Levin already had a Division I scholarship offer to her credit before she ever played in a high school game.
Before her sophomore year has even started the Solon standout point guard has already made her college decision.
Levin announced her commitment to the University of Iowa on Monday with a post on social media giving the Hawkeyes their first verbal commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.
“I’m super pumped to announce that I will be following my parents’ footsteps and continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa,” Levin wrote on Twitter.
Levin secured a scholarship offer from Arkansas in the fall of her freshman season before ever taking the court in a high school game.
She backed that offer up with a stellar freshman season that solidified her as one of the top young players and best overall point guards in Iowa.
The 5-foot-9 Levin was one of only two players in the state to average at least 19 points, fie rebounds, four steals and 3.5 assists per game last season while leading Solon to a 17-6 record, a WAMAC Conference title and a spot in the Class 3A regional title game.
The WAMAC East Division player of the year last season, Levin was a first-team all-state pick in Class 3A a year ago after ranking seventh in 3A in scoring at 19 points per game.
The 19 points per game were the most for a freshman in the state a year ago.
Levin shot 47 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line as a freshman, making a team-high 40 3-pointers while shooting 31 percent from beyond the arc.
She also ranked second on the team with 5 rebounds per game and led Solon with 4 steals and 3.7 assists per game.
“A big thanks to my parents/family for your endless support and unconditional love, to all my coaches along the way, especially to my dad who coached me since 2nd grade,” Levin wrote on Twitter. “To my Solon coaches for continuing to push me to be the best player I can be. Also, to my teammates for supporting me and challenging me to keep getting better, especially to my sister MaKinley for always being there for me on and off the court. Lastly, thanks to coach Bluder and the staff for taking a chance on me. I’m so grateful for this opportunity.”
