Solon’s Wilson, Heick Earn First-Team All-State Honors From IGCA

Solon had an offense that ranked among the most explosive in Class 3A this season.
The Spartans had a 3A-best .449 team batting average, scored nearly eight runs per game and ranked at or near the top of 3A in most major offensive statistical categories.
While the offensive production was a team effort several of the individuals that played a key role in the Spartans scoring spree were recognized for their efforts on Wednesday.
Solon had a trio of players earn all-state honors for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Wednesday led by senior Sarah Heick and sophomore Hilary Wilson who were both named to the Class 3A first team.
Junior Camryn Keith joined Wilson and Heick in earning all-state honors being named to the 3A second team.
A second-team all-state pick last season, Wilson earned first-team honors for the first time in her career after an impressive sophomore season.
Wilson hit safely in 35 of 39 games and had 26 multi-hit games while ranking fourth in the state with 80 hits.
The sophomore shortstop hit .548 with 28 extra-base hits, seven home runs and 47 RBI and ranked fourth in the state with 65 runs scored.
Wilson posted a .569 on-base percentage and a .856 slugging percentage while striking out six times in 146 at bats.
Heick earned all-state honors for the first time following a stellar senior season.
The Spartan catcher hit a team-leading .589 with 27 extra-base hits, eight home runs and 56 RBI and led Solon with a .613 on-base percentage and .952 slugging percentage.
A Kirkwood recruit, Heick scored 29 runs and drew 14 walks for the Spartans.
Keith was also a first-time all-state selection following a breakthrough junior season.
A part-time starter a year ago, Keith hit .515 and tied for the team lead with eight home runs this season driving in 55 runs and scoring 40 while helping Solon to a 26-13 record and a spot in the 3A regional final.
