Regina Closes Season With State Tournament Win Over No. 9 Underwood

FORT DODGE – Regina ended the season and its trip to the state tournament on a high note on Tuesday.
Senior Emma Sueppel had a pair of two-out RBI singles in the final game of her prep career as Class 2A No. 14 Regina downed ninth-ranked Underwood 2-1 in a consolation game at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Regina closed the season 20-13 with the win that came less than 24 hours after the Regals fell to second-ranked North Linn 5-2 in the 2A quarterfinals.
Underwood closed the season 26-5.
Junior Emma Nibaur tossed a complete game three hitter and Sueppel led a 10-hit Regina effort finishing 3-for-4 with both RBI.
Regina took an early lead it would never give up when Gabby Sueppel singled leading off the third inning.
Two batters later Emma Sueppel gave the Regals the lead with a two-out RBI single to right field.
Regina tacked on to its lead in the seventh when Nibaur singled with two outs and Sueppel drove her in with a single to center field.
Underwood cut the lead to one run on a two-out RBI single by Macy Vanfossan but Nibaur got Belle Freese to fly out to Sueppel in left field to end the game.
Nibaur allowed just three hits and one run and struck out seven without issuing a walk while improving to 17-8 on the season.
Courtney Kessler went 2-for-4 and Nibaur was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Abby Clark had a double, Baylee O’Connor had a hit and Gabby Sueppel had a hit and scored a run for the Regals.
