Regional Softball Roundup: City High’s Cook Sets Single-season Strikeout Mark in Regional Semifinal Win

City High got contributions from up and down the lineup in Saturday’s regional semifinal win over Marshalltown.
However, this was Ella Cook’s night.
Cook struck out 13 in a complete game one-hitter while setting a single-season school record for strikeouts as Class 5A sixth-ranked City High rolled past Marshalltown 8-0 in a Region 6 semifinal.
The senior standout also doubled and drove in two runs as City High returned to a regional final for the fourth consecutive season.
City High (32-7) will host No. 14 Cedar Rapids Prairie (28-13) in the Region 6 title game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Cook limited Marshalltown (6-30) to just one hit, a one-out single by Sophie Younkin in the third inning, and pushed her season strikeout total to 180, the most in any season in program history.
Makayla Ribble had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run and Lianna Hull doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Little Hawks.
Ayana Lindsey scored two runs and drove in a run while Cynthia Hull, Elyse Rios and Avy Lindsey each scored runs.
Sydney McCleary and Georgia Kimm each had hits for City High which extended its winning streak to four.
