Softball Roundup: Solon Finishes Second at Northeast Tournament

Solon went 2-1 at the Northeast Tournament on Saturday in Goose Lake defeating Monticello and Fort Madison and falling to Class 2A No. 14 Northeast 7-6 in eight innings in the championship game.
Class 3A No. 10 Solon improved to 24-11 on the season while Northeast moved to 24-13 with its three wins on Saturday.
Solon opened the day with a 12-2 win over Monticello in five innings.
Eighth-grader Zoey Grimm earned the win for the Spartans allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out two.
Ten different Spartans had a hit in the win as Solon finished with 19 hits as a team.
Monet Barnhouse led the way going 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Sarah Heick was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBI.
Tiffany Primmer was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Hilary Wilson and Camryn Keith each went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Ava Stebral had a hit and drove in two runs, Carly Ellison had a hit and drove in a run and Addie Miller had a hit and scored a run.
Against Fort Madison the Spartans built an early 9-2 run and held on for a 10-8 win.
Ellison earned the victory allowing eight runs on 16 hits while striking out two and walking three.
Barnhouse, Heick, Ellison and Meghan O’Neill all had three hits for Solon.
Barnhouse scored three runs and drove in a run, Heick doubled twice and drove in two runs, Ellison scored a run and drove in a run and O’Neill had three RBI.
Primmer had two hits and drove in a run and Wilson scored two runs in the win.
In the championship against Northeast Solon scored two runs in the top of the eighth but the Rebels responded with three in the bottom of the inning to pull out the win.
Kendall Jensen took the loss allowing six runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out three.
Wilson had two hits and scored a run while Barnhouse had two hits and drove in a run for Solon.
Primmer and Miller each had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run.
Ava Stebral had a triple, scored and drove in a run for Solon.
