Liberty High swept Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Friday winning a pair of one-run, extra-inning games over the J-Hawks in North Liberty.
The Lightning won the opener 3-2 in eight innings and took the nightcap 9-8 in nine innings while improving to 18-11 on the season and 15-9 in MVC play.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 5-27 on the year and 4-22 in conference play.
Jack Turgasen picked up the win in the opener allowing just one run on one hits while striking out five in three innings of relief.
Ethan O’Donnell started and allowed one run on six hits while striking out five and walking one.
Jack Funke had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run for Liberty High while Luke Meyers had a hit and scored two runs.
Ian Gates had a hit and TJ Kimm tripled and drove in a run for the Lightning.
Liberty High rallied for a 9-8 win in the nightcap scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Seven different pitchers saw action for Liberty High with Gates tossing two hitless innings to earn the win.
Shane Alberts, Luke Bollier and Boyd Skelley also tossed scoreless innings of relief for the Lightning.
Funke had two hits including a triple and drove in two runs while Keian Secrist added two hits for Liberty High.
Meyers, Evan Chandler, Hayden Vickroy and Brody Fishman all had hits and drove in runs for Liberty High.
Fishman and Noah Kirk scored two runs for the Lightning while Kimm had a hit and scored a run.
