Baseball Roundup: No. 6 Solon Splits Doubleheader with Top-ranked Marion

A couple of Class 3A and WAMAC East Division heavyweights split a doubleheader on Thursday as top-ranked Marion and sixth-ranked Solon battled to a draw in Marion.
Marion won the opener 13-2 in five innings before Solon salvaged a split with an 11-10 win in 11 innings in the nightcap.
Solon moved to 22-8 on the season and 17-3 in WAMAC play while Marion moved to 22-4 on the year and remained atop the East Division standings at 14-3.
Marion hammered 12 hits in the opener on its way to a 13-2 win.
Blake Timmons took the loss for Solon allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking six in 3 1/3 innings.
Cade Chapman went 2-for-2 to lead Solon while Timmons had a hit and scored a run and Gehrig Turner had a hit and drove in a run.
The Spartans scored a pair of runs in the top of the 11th to escape with an 11-10 win in game two.
Westen Stiegelmeyer earned the win in relief allowing one run on three hits while striking out four and walking four in 5 1/3 innings.
Carson Shive went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI to pace Solon while Brett White and Kinnick Pusteoska each had two hits.
Drew Turner had double and drove in two runs, Brady Jeworrek had a hit and scored two runs and Timmons had a hit and scored a run.
