Softball Roundup: Second-ranked Western Dubuque Sweeps Liberty High

Class 4A second-ranked Western Dubuque swept Class 5A No. 11 Liberty High in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader on Wednesday in North Liberty.
Western Dubuque improved to 28-4 on the season and 23-3 in MVC play with the sweep while Liberty High dropped to 18-13 on the year and 15-8 in conference games.
The Bobcats took control of the opening with a four-run first inning on its way to the win.
Kennedy Daugherty took the loss for the Lightning allowing seven runs, three earned, on 11 hits while striking out four.
Haley Schroeder had a hit and scored a run for Liberty High while Brynlee Slockett, Daugherty and Eva Stewart all added hits.
Kinsley Robertson took the loss in game two allowing eight runs on nine hits over five innings.
Ashlyn Geasland and Haileigh Smith each had hits and drove in runs in game two while Kylie Hammers and Raquel Trolliet had hits and scored runs for Liberty High.
Olivia Davenport and Schroeder added hits in the nightcap.
