Class 3A second-ranked Mount Vernon swept Clear Creek Amana in a WAMAC Conference cross-divisional doubleheader on Wednesday in Oxford.

Mount Vernon won the opener 1-0 and took the nightcap 6-4 while improving to 29-4 on the season and 20-2 in WAMAC conference play.

Class 4A eighth-ranked Clear Creek Amana dropped to 27-8 on the year and 18-6 in conference games with the losses.

Mount Vernon scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning in game one on an RBI triple by Addison Gookin.

Clear Creek Amana could muster just two hits off Mount Vernon starter Jenna Sprague as a pair of Gabrielle Bedford doubles accounted for all the Clipper offense.

Ashley Webb took the loss allowing one un on five hits while striking out eight without a walk in seven innings.

Mount Vernon overcame a 4-3 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning of the nightcap to secure the sweep.

Webb took the loss for the Clippers in game two allowing six runs, three earned, on 10 hits while striking out nine in a complete game.

Avery Allan went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI and Bedford went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run.

Emma Mathis had a hit and scored a run, Katelyn LeFleur had a hit and an RBI and Reese Stockman, Olivia Miller and Webb all added hits.
