Baseball Roundup: West High Sweeps Fourth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie

West High swept Class 4A fourth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Iowa City on Monday taking the opener 3-1 and winning the nightcap 9-3.
The Trojans improved to 16-10 on the season and 11-9 in MVC play with the sweep while Cedar Rapids Prairie dropped to 23-5 and 18-4 in conference play.
Four West High pitchers combined to hold Prairie to one run on three hits in the opener with senior Luke Fasse earning the win after recording the final out of the sixth inning.
Junior Nathan Stephens allowed one run on three hits and stuck out two in four innings, Caden Noeller tossed 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief and Marcus Morgan worked a scoreless seventh inning to secure the save.
Noah DeSaulniers hit a solo home run and Alex McKay had two hits and scored a run to lead the Trojans.
Cade Adkins and Schuyler Houston each had hits and drove in runs for West High.
Morgan earned the win in the nightcap allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven in four innings.
DeSaulniers gave up one run on one hit in two innings of relief.
Housto had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run, Adkins had a hit and an RBI and Mitch Frey had a hit and drove in three runs.
Nate Gudenkauf scored twice and drove in two runs and Morgan and Ian McAreavy each scored a run and drove in a run.
