Softball Roundup: Mount Vernon Sweeps Solon in Top-10 WAMAC Showdown

Second-ranked Mount Vernon swept Solon in a WAMAC East Division doubleheader between Class 3A top-10 teams on Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon won the opener 1-0 and took the nightcap 6-2 while improving to 24-3 on the season and 16-2 in WAMAC games.
Solon dropped to 20-8 and 14-6 in conference contests.
A first-inning run was enough for Mount Vernon junior Jenna Sprague who tossed a four-hit shutout while striking out six.
Monet Barnhouse went 2-for-3 while Camryn Keith doubled and Kendall Jensen added a single for Solon.
Jensen took the loss allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out three and walking two.
Sprague earned the win in game two, allowing two runs on 10 hits while striking out three.
Sarah Heick went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Hilary Wilson and Keith each had two hits.
Wilson scored two runs while Keith had an RBI.
Barnhouse, Jada Buffington and Meghan O’Neill each had a hit for the Spartans.
Izzy Frees took the loss for Solon allowing six runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking three.
