The 2021 Your Prep Sports Area Boys Soccer Team

High school soccer returned to Iowa this spring after last season was cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
After a year away the annual Your Prep Sports boys soccer team returns as well.
The Your Prep Sports area team honors the top players in the area for their performance this season and features players from seven different area teams.
The fourth edition of the Your Prep Sports boys soccer team is filled with all-conference and all-state players, state tournament qualifiers, school record holders and college recruits.
West High senior Kolby Godbolt is the captain of the 2021 Your Prep Sports area team after scoring 21 goals and adding seven assists while leading the Trojans to the state championship match.

Senior, West High
Godbolt was named Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division player of the year and was a first-team all-state selection by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association after helping West High reach the Class 3A state title match.
The senior forward scored five goals in a pair of state tournament wins, including four in a quarterfinal win over Sioux City West, and finished with a team-high 21 goals and seven assists in his first season in a West High uniform.
Godbolt scored 38 goals and had 20 assists over his final two seasons.
Alec Wick
Senior, Regina
A three-time selection on the Your Prep Sports team, Wick earned all-state honors for the third consecutive season after capping a stellar career with an impressive senior season.
Wick ranked ninth in 1A with 31 goals as a senior, helping the Regals reach the state tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
An Iowa football recruit, Wick closed his career with 77 goals and 20 assists in three seasons directing Regina to a pair of 1A titles and a semifinal appearance this season.
Peyton Miller
Junior, West Branch
In just his second season of varsity action Miller emerged as one of the most dangerous scoring threats in the state while leading West Branch to the best season in program history.
Miller ranked second in the state with 40 goals and added 11 assists in 13 matches helping West Branch post an 11-2 record.
The junior forward scored in 11 of 13 matches and had three or more goals eight times on his way to earning first-team all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Gabe Yetley
Senior, Solon
A varsity starter and potent piece in the Solon lineup since his freshman season in 2018 Yetley had his breakthrough this season emerging as one of the top attackers in Class 1A.
After scoring 14 goals and adding 13 assists in his first two varsity seasons, Yetley ranked 12th in 1A with 25 goals and added 13 assists this spring as a senior.
Yetley was named WAMAC East Division player of the year and earned first-team all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Jaxyn Logan
Junior, Liberty High
Logan stepped up his game in his second season in goal for the Lightning ranking 13th in Class 3A with 110 saves.
The junior keeper earned first-team all-MVC Mississippi Division honors this season and was at his best late in the season.
Logan posted a pair of shutouts and allowed just three goals during a five-match winning streak for Liberty High that ended with a loss to eventual state champion Pleasant Valley in the substate semifinals.
Matthew Brown
Junior, City High
Already a two-year starter, Brown established himself as one of the top players in the Mississippi Valley Conference as a junior.
Brown earned first-team all-MVC Valley Division honors while helping City High post an 11-6 record and advance to the Class 3A substate final.
Dillon Bruck
Junior, Solon
Another Spartan to enjoy a breakthrough season, Bruck ranked second on the team in goals while helping Solon advance to the 1A substate finals.
A first team all-WAMAC East Division pick and second-team all-state selection by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association, Bruck scored 20 goals and added five assists and showed his versatility starting the substate final at keeper.
Taylor Christensen
Senior, Clear Creek Amana
Christensen emerged as the main threat in the Clipper attack during his senior season leading Clear Creek Amana in goals while earning first-team all-WAMAC West Division honors.
The senior midfielder had 14 goals and two assists while helping Clear Creek Amana 12-5 record and advance to the 2A substate semifinals.
Andy Lu
Senior, West High
One of the top all-around players on a loaded West High roster, Lu earned first team all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association and was a first-team all MVC Valley Division pick.
Lu ranked fourth fifth on the team with four goals and added two assists but his true value was in his versatility and ability to make plays across the field.
Hayden Saul
Sophomore, Liberty High
Saul stepped up in his first varsity season leading Liberty High in goals and helping the Lightning mount a late-season surge that resulted in a trip to the Class 3A substate semifinals.
The sophomore scored a team-high eight goals and added two assists while directing Liberty High to a 9-8 record and earning first-team all-MVC Mississippi Division honors.
Michael Nelson
Sophomore, West High
In his first varsity season Nelson had an instant impact ranking second on the team in both goals and assists.
Nelson ranked behind only Godbolt on the West High roster with 14 goals and added six assists while being named to the MVC Valley Division first team.
Yulong Shao
Senior, West High
A varsity contributor since his freshman season and two-year full-time starter Shao has been one of the cornerstones for the West High program over the past four years.
Shao earned first team MVC all-division honors each of the past two seasons and helped West High to a combined 56-9 record over the past three seasons, a stretch that included three trips to the 3A semifinals and two runner-up finishes.
As a senior Shao had three goals and two assists.
Aaron Rutherford
Junior, City High
After getting his feet wet at the varsity level two seasons ago as a freshman Rutherford proved to be one of the top players in the Mississippi Valley Conference this season.
Rutherford earned first-team all-MVC Valley Division honors while helping City High go 11-6 and advance to the 3A substate final where it fell to eventual state champion Pleasant Valley.
