Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Stretches Win Streak to Six With Sweep of CR Washington

Liberty High picked up its second doubleheader sweep of the week and pushed its winning streak to six with a pair of wins over Cedar Rapids Washington on Wednesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader in North Liberty.
The Lightning won the opener 12-2 in six innings and took the nightcap 7-1 while improving to 11-7 on the season and 6-6 in MVC play.
Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 4-15 on the year and 1-7 in conference games.
Senior Ethan O’Donnell earned the win in game one allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out nine and walking three.
Garret Roggy went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead a 14-hit Liberty High attack while Ian Gates, Hayden Vickroy, Jack Funke and Luke Meyers all added two hits for the Lightning.
Gates had a double, two runs scored and an RBI while Meyers doubled, drove in three runs and scored a run.
Funke had a double, drove in a run and scored a run while Keian Secrist had a hit and drove in two runs and Cody Schroeder had a hit and scored twice.
Noah Kirk allowed just one hit in six strong innings in the nightcap while picking up the win.
Kirk struck out six and walked three allowing just one run before Shane Alberts pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Kimm was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI while Roggy homered and Secrist had a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
Meyers had a hit and scored twice for the Lightning.
