Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Sweeps Western Dubuque

Liberty High got a walk-off win in the opener and used a six-run second inning to take control of the nightcap while sweeping Western Dubuque in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader on Monday in North Liberty.
The Lightning won the opener 4-3 on a two-out single by Hayden Vickroy and took game two 9-2 while improving to 9-7 on the season and 6-6 in MVC play with the sweep.
Western Dubuque dropped to 7-8 and 4-6 in MVC play with the losses.
Vickroy tossed six strong innings in the opener, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out one and walking three before delivering the game-winning hit in the seventh.
The two-out hit plated TJ Kimm who led the Lightning with two hits and two runs scored.
Keian Secrist went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored and Brody Fishman was 2-for-4 with a double.
Jack Funke doubled and drove in a run and Cody Schroeder doubled and scored a run.
Luke Bollier picked up the win in relief, allowing two unearned runs on one hit in an inning.
Liberty High jumped to an early lead courtesy of a six-run second inning in the nightcap and cruised to a 9-2 win.
Boyd Skelley earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking one.
Kolton Fangman and Jacob Turgasen each worked scoreless innings of relief.
Kimm and Funke each had two hits with Funke driving in two runs and Kimm scoring a run.
Fishman had a hit and scored twice, Secrist doubled and scored a run and Vickroy had a hit and scored a run in the nightcap.
