West High Puts Four Players on MVC Valley Division First Team

For the second consecutive season West High was among the most improved girls soccer teams in the state.
West High went from 9-10 in 2019 to 12-5 with a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division title and a spot in the 3A regional finals.
On Monday West High was recognized for its team improvement with some individual hardware.
West High put four players on the MVC Valley Division first team and nine Trojans earned all-divisional honors when the conference announced its postseason awards on Monday.
Juniors Makenna Vonderhaar and Jada Dachtler, sophomore Meena Tate and senior Julia Bernat all earned first-team all-Valley Division for West High while juniors Kenadee Showalter and Anna Verry and senior Makayla Slade were all second-team picks.
Vonderhaar led West High with 15 goals and nine assists while Dachtler had six goals and three assists for the Trojans.
Tate had four goals in her first varsity season while Bernat was a key back row player for West High which went 6-0 against Valley Division opponents this season.
Showalter was second on the team with six goals and four assists.
Senior Grace Curran and junior Mattie Harms were both honorable mention picks for West High.
City High put three players on the Mississippi Division first team and had eight players earn all-division honors.
Senior Callie Menzel, junior Mia DePrenger and sophomore Claire Brown were all first-team all-division selections for the Little Hawks.
Brown led City High with 12 goals and seven assists while DePrenger had two goals and an assist and Menzel had three goals and two assists.
Juniors Sara Cassady and Morgan Turner were second-team picks for City High along with freshman Maclayne Menzel.
Turner had four goals and three assists while Maclayne Menzel had three assists as City High posted a 9-5 record.
Cassady made 64 saves and allowed 11 goals for the Little Hawks.
Senior Stella Foster and sophomore Mya Witt each earned honorable mention honors for City High.
Liberty High had a pair of players named to the Mississippi Division first team in senior Elise Hermiston and junior Grace Heddens.
Heddens led Liberty High with 18 goals and added four assists while Hermiston had a team-high 12 assists and seven goals.
Junior Sam Harvey was a second-team pick after making 109 saves while allowing 16 goals.
Seniors Bella Gasparoni and Lucy Kaskie both earned honorable mention honors for Liberty High.
