Baseball Roundup: City High Sweeps Seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie

In the middle of a six-game winning streak City High posted its most impressive pair of wins to date on Friday.
City High swept Class 4A seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader winning the opener 10-0 in six innings and taking the nightcap 5-0.
The Little Hawks improved to 10-4 on the season and 9-1 in MVC play while handing Prairie (12-3, 8-2) its first two conference losses of the season.
John Klosterman and Alex Knudtson combined to hold a Prairie offense that hadn’t been shutout all season and had scored double digits eight times in 14 games to four total hits in back-to-back shutouts.
Klosterman tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener allowing just three walks while striking out three.
The junior also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the win.
City High led 2-0 when it exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning.
Gavin Koch went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored and Carter Seaton was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
Gable Mitchell went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Cade Obermueller and Egan Smith each had a hit and scored a run.
Knudtson spun a one-hit shutout in the nightcap allowing just a single to Colton Forslund in the first inning.
Knudtson walked one and struck out six while improving to 2-0 on the season.
Klosterman homered, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Little Hawks while Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
