Softball Roundup: Pitching Lifts Liberty High to Sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington

Kara Maiers and Kinsley Robertson tossed back-to-back no-hitters to help Class 5A eighth-ranked Liberty High sweep Cedar Rapids Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in North Liberty.
Maiers and Robertson each posted impressive performances in wins abbreviated by the run rule as Liberty High improved to 5-3 on the season while Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 0-6.
In the opener Maiers struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter in a four-inning no-hitter.
Liberty High scored at least twice in each of its four trips to the plate in game one putting up four runs in the first and third innings.
Kylie Hamers went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in game one while Raquel Trolliet had a hit and drove in two runs and Haley Schroeder and Kinsley Robertson each had a hit and scored twice.
Mischa Reiners tripled and drove in two runs while Ava Donnelly doubled and drove in a run.
In the nightcap Robertson struck out six and didn’t issue a walk in a three-inning no-hitter.
Eva Stewart provided the offense going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and five RBI.
Kennedy Daugherty was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Brynlee Slockett was 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Trolliet had two hits and scored twice, Robertson had a hit and drove in two runs and Reiners tripled and scored a run.
