Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Remains Hot With Sweep of 3A No. 10 Cedar Rapids Xavier

Liberty High remained red-hot sweeping Class 3A tenth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in North Liberty on Tuesday.
The Lightning used a seven-run first inning to win the opener 7-6 and got a one-hit shutout from Ethan O’Donnell in a 10-0 win in six innings in the nightcap.
Liberty High pushed its winning streak to three with the sweep and improved to 4-1 on the season while Cedar Rapids Xavier dropped to 3-4.
Hayden Vickroy earned the win in the opener as Liberty High used four pitchers in game one.
Vickroy allowed one run on one hit in two innings of relief while Jack Turgasen struck out four in two one-hit innings of relief to earn the save.
Cody Schroeder tripled, scored a run and drove in a run and Garret Roggy had a two-run single in the seven-run Lightning first.
TJ Kimm doubled, scored and drove in a run and Noah Kirk doubled and scored.
O’Donnell allowed just one hit in five shutout innings in the nightcap striking out five and walking two to earn the win.
Brody Fishman, Shane Alberts, Kirk and Luke Meyers all had two hits in game two as Liberty High racked up 14 hits as a team.
Fishman scored twice while Keian Secrist had a hit and scored twice and Meyers scored twice.
Kirk, Jack Funke, Kimm, Schroeder Secrist and Alberts all drove in runs in game two.
