West Branch senior Savannah Sexton shot an 88 on the opening day of the Class 2A state golf meet on Tuesday at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Sexton is in a three-way tie for 19^th place after one round at the two-day, 36-hole tournament that is set to conclude on Wednesday.

The senior opened with a 46 on the front nine on Tuesday before firing a 42 on the back nine to post an opening-round 88.

Sexton is even with Jillian Beuter of Dike-New Hartford and Shae Bernhardt of Van Meter with her opening-round 88.

Van Meter leads the 2A team race by seven strokes after shooting a 349 on Tuesday.

New Hampton and Roland-Story each shot 356 on Tuesday while Williamsburg is fourth after one day with a 373.
