For the first time in program history Liberty High has multiple golfers headed to the state meet.

Freshman Bella Pettersen and senior Neely Maurus each secured spots at the Class 4A state meet on Monday with top-six finishes at the Class 4A, Region 4 meet at Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville.

Pettersen shot a four-over-par 75 to finish runner-up to Linn-Mar senior Tatum Depuydt who won the individual title with a one-under 70.

Maurus finished fourth with a 77 as Liberty High narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet as a team finishing fourth with a 360.

Pleasant Valley won the team title with a 335 followed by Linn-Mar with a 353 and Dubuque Hempstead with a 358.

City High shot a 395 to finish fifth at the 10-team regional.

Pettersen opened with a 37 and shot a 38 on the back nine to finish one stroke in front of Dubuque Hempstead senior Morgan Hawkins.

Maurus was one under on the front nine and shot a seven-over-par 77 on the back nine to finish even with Erika Holmberg of Pleasant Valley with a 77.

Pettersen and Maurus will compete in the Class 4A state tournament on June 1 and 2.

Dani Moen shot a 95 and Lauryn Varo fired a 97 to lead City High.
