Solon Secures Spot at Class 3A State Meet With District Title

In a season filled with victories the Solon boys golf team secured its most significant win yet on Thursday.
Solon edged Monticello by two strokes to win the Class 3A district meet at Flint Hills Golf Course on Thursday to advance to the Class 3A state meet.
The Spartans had two of the top individual scores and shot a 328 as a team on Thursday to finish two strokes in front of runner-up Monticello while Mount Pleasant was third with a 360.
Senior Stetson McIlravy shot a two-over-par 37 on the back nine and finished with a 79 to finish runner-up while teammate Jack McCarty was third with an 80.
Justin Recker of Monticello won the individual title with a 75.
Solon got an 84 from Frank Haege Jr. and an 85 from senior Lucas TePoel while advancing to the Class 3A state meet set for May 27-28 Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
Clear Creek Amana sophomore Zach McCarty shot an 83 as an individual qualifier.
