Keeley Arnold spent most of last fall leading the West High volleyball program
On Monday Arnold was officially named head coach.
West High announced on Monday that Arnold had accepted an offer to become head volleyball coach pending school board approval after being named interim coach 10 games into last season.
An all-state setter at West High under Hall of Fame coach Kathy Bresnahan in 2008, Arnold returned to West High as an assistant coach in 2017.
Arnold directed West High to a 9-9 record as interim head coach last fall after taking over for Scott Sanders on September 7.
Despite going nearly three weeks without practice or matches after Iowa City Schools switched to online learning last fall, Arnold guided the Trojans to a strong finish.
West High went 9-9 when it returned to the court and won four of its final six matches including a five-set win over state qualifier Dubuque Hempstead in the regular season finale and a four-set victory over City High in the Region 7 quarterfinals.
Arnold will become just the eighth head coach in program history and follows Sanders who spent four seasons as head coach.
West High finished 13-15 last season falling to eventual 5A runner-up Liberty High in the regional semifinals.
