Liberty High Junior Keeney Named MVC Mississippi Division Track and Field Athlete of the Year

Later this week Ashly Keeney will attempt to build on an already stellar prep resume in her second appearance at the State Track and Field Meet.
On Monday the Liberty High junior standout tacked on another achievement to the list.
Keeney was named as the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division Track and Field athlete of the year on Monday after winning three individual events and added a runner-up finish at the divisional meet earlier this month.
At the Divisional meet at Cedar Falls on May 6 Keeney won the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 and finished runner-up in the 400 while helping the Lighting to a fourth-place team finish.
Keeney won the 800 in 2:20.25, won the 1,500 in 4:57.42 and the 3,000 in a time of 10:25.6 while clocking a 1:01.55 in a runner-up finish in the 400.
Dubuque Hempstead freshman Keelee Leitzen was the Valley Division athlete of the year while Drew Bartels of Cedar Rapids Kennedy (Valley Division) and Will Eastman of Cedar Falls (Mississippi Division) were the boys athletes of the year.
