From the races they run to the success they have enjoyed this season Tom Johnson and Emma Bock have shared quite a few similarities during the track and field season this spring.
Now the two area standouts have one more thing in common – both are WAMAC track and field athletes of the year.
Johnson and Bock were announced as the conference track and field athletes of the year on Tuesday following a vote by WAMAC coaches.
Both Bock and Johnson have enjoyed stellar seasons that featured outstanding efforts at the WAMAC Conference Super Meet last Thursday.
Bock and Johnson each won four events while helping their respective teams win WAMAC championships last Thursday in Independence.
A senior, Johnson won the 800 and anchored three relay teams to victories at the WAMAC Super Meet while helping Clear Creek Amana win the first conference track and field title in program history.
Johnson won the 800 in 2:01.83 and anchored the Clear Creek Amana sprint medley, distance medley and 4×400 relays to titles as the Clippers finished 25 points in front of runner-up Marion.
Bock led a dominating effort for Solon at the WAMAC conference meet, winning individual titles in the 400 and 800 and anchoring the Spartans to a pair of relay wins.
The junior standout won the 400 in 57.95, added a title in the 800 in 2:26.84 and ran the final leg of Solon’s winning sprint medley and 4×400 relays.
Solon won its third consecutive conference title and second super Meet title in as many years finishing 77.5 points in front of runner-up Williamsburg.
