The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Nate Wieland
City High graduate and current Grand View University junior Nate Wieland was named a first-team NAIA all-American by the American Football Coaches Association last week.
A 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker, Wieland led the Vikings with 46 tackles in eight games this season including 19 solo stops and 10.5 tackles for loss.
Wieland also had 2.5 sacks while helping Grand View to a 7-1 record and a spot in the NAIA quarterfinals.
Chandler Haight
West High graduate Chandler Haight broke the Drake University school record in the shot put with a career-best throw on Friday.
A junior for the Bulldogs, Haight set a school record with a throw of 49-10 ½ on Friday at the South Dakota Tune-Up in Vermillion, South Dakota.
The throw was more than a foot better than the previous school record and ranks sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.
Austin Miller
West High graduate and current University of Mississippi senior relief pitcher Austin Miller tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings this week for the 11th ranked Rebels this week.
Miller tossed a scoreless inning in a win over Arkansas State on Tuesday and worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Texas A&M on Friday allowing just two hits while striking out four.
Miller has allowed runs in just six of 15 appearances this season and has a 4.05 ERA in 20 innings.
