Girls Tennis Roundup: West High Downs Cedar Rapids Xavier in Battle of Top-ranked Teams

In a battle of the two top-ranked tennis teams in the state it was West High that came out on top.
Class 2A top-ranked West High won five singles matches and remained unbeaten on the season with a 7-2 win over 1A No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Cedar Rapids.
Ella De Young and Caroline Chandler each won tie breakers while picking up singles victories as West High improved to 14-0 on the season.
De Young defeated Miyako Coffey 7-6 (2), 6-2 at number one singles while Chandler won a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory over Ally Burger at number three singles.
Julianna Mascardo, Caroline Mascardo and Lydia Shin all added singles wins as West High clinched the match before the start of doubles competition.
West High got doubles wins from a pair of sibling combinations at number one and number three doubles.
Julianna and Caroline Mascardo defeated Coffey and Burger 6-4, 6-4 at number one doubles and Lydia and Maggie Shin posted a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Gabby Flynn and Riley Braksiek at number three doubles.
West High will close out the regular season with a home match on Thursday against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
