Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Nick O’Connor
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Indian Hills Community College freshman Nick O’Connor qualified for the NJCAA National Championships with a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 at the Region XI Meet on Saturday at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.
O’Connor clocked a 4:01.73 to finish fourth and secure at spot at nationals.
Josh Jasek
Former West High standout placekicker Josh Jasek continued a strong freshman season at Iowa Western Community College on Saturday connecting on all six of his extra point attempts and hitting a pair of field goals in a 48-0 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Jasek leads NJCAA in kicking points with 56 and is 29-of-32 on PAT attempts and 9-of-13 on field goals with a long for 47 for 5-1 and third-ranked Iowa Western.
Caleb Sass
City High graduate and current Cornell College senior Caleb Sass had four hits, including a double and a triple, scored four runs and drove in three in a doubleheader against Illinois College on Saturday.
Sass has started all 27 games and is hitting .337 for the Rams this season, leading the team in at bats, runs (31), hits (35), doubles (8), triples (1), home runs (3), and ranking second on the team with 19 RBI and 17 walks.
