Boys Golf Roundup: West Branch Edges Solon Again, This Time at Tiger Classic

For the second time in as many weeks West Branch and Solon were nearly even while battling for the team title at a golf invitational.
Once again it was the Bears that came out on top.
A week after edging Solon by a single stroke for the title at the Spartan Invite, defending 2A runner-up West Branch finished three strokes in front of the Spartans to win the Tiger Classic on Thursday at Tipton Golf and Country Club.
West Branch had three golfers shoot in the 70s on Thursday while posting a team score of 312.
Solon was runner-up at the nine-team meet with a 315 followed by Mount Vernon with a 333, Tipton with 334 and Maquoketa with 344. Regina was sixth with a 374.
Kaleb Sexton led West Branch placing third with a 77 while Brady Knoop was fourth with a 78 and Will Bridges was seventh with a 79.
Dylan Country shot a 37 on the final nine holes to finish with an 81.
Frank Haege Jr. fired a 75 to earn medalist honors for Solon while Stetson McIlravy was fifth with a 79 and Mac McCarty was sixth with a 79.
Jack McCarty shot an 82 for the Spartans and Mike Takacs shot an 82 to lead Regina.
