West Branch won the 4×800 relay and got individual runner-up finishes from five different athletes on its way to a third-place team finish at its own Chad Gates Invitational on Thursday in West Branch.

The Bears were runner-up in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays and had seven total runner-up finishes while racking up 103 team points.

Maquoketa won the team title with 161 points followed by Wilton with 118. Solon was fourth with 82 points.

The West Branch foursome of Alyse Klinkkammer, Madelyn Stout, JaLynn Falco and Nina Torkelson won the 4×800 in 11:51.31.

West Branch’s team of Nicki Henson, Laikyn Worrell, Sasha Koenig and Iva Senio was second in both the 4×100 and 4×200 and the Bears got individual runner-up finishes from Koenig, Allie Laschanzky, Henson, Senio and Torkelson.

Koenig was second in the long jump, Laschanzky in the shot put and Senio in the 200 while Henson was runner-up in the 100 and Torkelson in the 1,500.

Solon got individual titles form Ava Conrad, Callie Levin and Calla Foster while placing fourth as a team.

Conrad swept the throwing events, winning the shot put with a mark of 35-4 and taking the discus with a toss of 96-4.

Laschanzky was third in the discus while Solon’s Leah Kollar was third in the shot put.

Levin won the long jump with a leap of 15-1 and Foster won the 100 hurdles in a time of 18.53.
