Girls Tennis Roundup: Top-ranked West High Edges No. 3 Cedar Falls in Season-opening Thriller

After the coronavirus pandemic cost tennis teams across the state the opportunity compete West High, Cedar Falls and mother nature provided a perfect return to the sport on Tuesday.
Top-ranked West High edged third-ranked Cedar Falls 5-4 in a thrilling season-opener for both teams under sunny skies in Cedar Falls.
West High won four of six singles matches and the Trojan’s doubles tandem of Zola Gross and Maggie Shin rallied from 4-1 down in the second set to secure a match-clinching win at number three doubles.
Ella DeYoung, Carolina Mascardo, Lydia Shin and Gross all won singles matches as West High won despite seven of its 10 players making their varsity debuts.
