Following an entire season away from the track Ashlyn Keeney got back to doing what she does best on Saturday at the 14^th annual Sherwood Relays.

Keeney won a pair of individual titles to help Liberty High to a fourth-place team finish at the season-opening meet at Raffensperger Track and City High.

In her first outdoor meet since 2019 after the coronavirus pandemic wiped out all of last season Keeney won the 3,000 and the 800 on Saturday as Liberty High racked up 110 points.

Southeast Polk won the team title with 153.5 points followed by Ankeny Centennial with 116.5 and Cedar Falls with 114.5.

Host City High was fifth with 80 points.

Keeney won the 3,000 in a time of 10:15.45, more than 22 seconds in front of runner-up Mattison Plummer of Ankeny Centennial.

The junior added a title in the 800 in 2:24.51 edging Southeast Polk’s Libby Hartz by more than three seconds.

Keeney also anchored the Liberty High distance medley relay team that included Christella Luyeye, Brynlee Slockett and Carlie Schroeder to a runner-up finish in 4:32.73.

The Liberty High 4×100 squad of Brityn Gryp, Amira Coleman, Brie Klein and Chaise Lange was runner-up in 53.12 and Beth Jaeger was second in the high jump clearing 4-10.

City High got an individual title from Alia Vanderhoef, who won the high jump by clearing 5-0, and also won the distance medley relay while placing fifth as a team.

The foursome of Jordan Sekafetz, Mia DePrenger, CeCe Kelly-Harvey and Lilly Reynolds won the distance medley in 4:23.7.

Sekafetz was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 16-4 and joined DePrenger, Maya Morales and Sierra Pruessner on the City High shuttle hurdle relay team that was second in 1:10.29.
