City High opened the season with an impressive performance on Friday winning the team title at the Steve Roth Washington Relays at Case Field in Washington.

The Little Hawks won four events and finished runner-up in four others while racking up 128 team points to finish 11 in front of runner-up Cedar Rapids Prairie.

West High was third with 98 points followed by Ottumwa with 65, Carlisle with 63 and host Washington with 47 points.

City High got individual titles from Isaac Rohert and John Aschenbrenner and won the 4×800 relay on its way to the team title.

Rohert won the 100 in 11.12 and added a title in the 200 in 22.74 while Aschenbrenner won the 110 hurdles in 15.52.

The City High foursome of Ford Washburn, Truman Thompson, Ammon Smith and Soren Ostby won the 4×800 relay in 8:23.45.

Matt Schaeckenbach was runner-up in the high jump, Ronnie Major was second in the long jump and Washburn finished second in the 800.

City High added a runner-up finish in the shuttle hurdle relay.

West High got individual titles from Caden Noeller in the 800 (2:03.75) and Alex McKane in the 1,600 (4:35.86) and the team of Jason Lu, Fabian Brown, Trey King and Mason Applegate won the 4×100 relay in 44.49.

Applegate added a pair of runner-up finishes for West High placing second in the shot put (48-8) and 100 (11.28).
