Seven Area Girls Basketball Players Earn Academic All-State Honors

Seven area athletes were named to the Academic All-state girls basketball team released this week by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
West Branch had six players and Regina had one selected to the academic all-state team that honors senior basketball players that hold a grade point average of 3.85 or above.
Abby Clark earned academic all-state honors after starting all 20 games for Regina and helping the Regals to a 12-8 record and a spot in the 2A regional final.
Clark averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
West Branch seniors Sasha Koenig, Savannah Sexton, Rylan Druecker, Lexie Peak, Abby Westcott and Bailey Donohoe were all academic all-state picks after helping the Bears to a 21-2 record and the first state tournament win in program history.
Koenig averaged a team-high 20.2 points per game and was a first-team all-state selection while Druecker averaged 10.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Peak averaged 5.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.
