The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Lily Ernst
Former West High standout Lily Ernst had a big day in the first home meet of the season for the Northern Iowa swimming and diving team on Saturday.
Ernst won a pair of individual events while setting a school record in the 200 fly as the Panthers fell to Illinois State.
A freshman for the Panthers, Ernst won the 200 fly in a time of 2:03.77, beating the previous record by .74 seconds.
Ernst won the 100 fly in 57.06 and finished third in the 400 IM in 4:38.19.
Austin West
West High graduate and current Iowa sophomore Austin West finished third in the heptathlon at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships helping the Hawkeyes win the team title at the event for the first time since 1929.
West finished with 5,581 points, edging Michigan sophomore Heath Baldwin by 13 to earn the bronze medal. Iowa junior Peyton Haack won the heptathlon 5,749 points.
Kaleba Jack
City High graduate Kaleba Jack helped the Hawkeyes to the team title at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships with a seventh-place finish in the long jump on Thursday at SPIRE Institute in Geneva Ohio.
A freshman, Jack finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 23-7 ½ in his first appearance at the conference meet.
Iowa finished with a school-record 119 points.
