Girls Basketball Roundup: City High Falls to No. 3 Waterloo West in Regional Final

City High fell into a 17-3 hole in the opening quarter and could never full recover in a 64-51 loss to third-ranked Waterloo West in the Class 5A, Region 3 title game on Tuesday in Waterloo.
Waterloo West built a 33-14 lead while pushing its winning streak to 18 straight and advancing to the state tournament for the second consecutive season.
The Wahawks improved to 19-1 with the win and will face West High (13-3) in a Class 5A state quarterfinal on Monday at 3 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
No. 12 City High closed the season 10-5 with the loss and had a string of four consecutive state tournament appearances end.
Ella Cook led City High with 18 points while Kelsey Joens had 11 points and Eviyon Richardson and Andie Westlake each had eight.
Halli Poock had a game-high 19 points for Waterloo West while Sahara Williams had 18, Gabby Moore had 15 and Brooklyn Smith added 11.
