Prior to making his postseason debut on Saturday Clear Creek Amana freshman Jack Stevens had already put together a stellar start to his prep career.

On Saturday Stevens made it a historic start.

Stevens became just the second freshman in Clear Creek Amana history to reach the state meet with a runner-up finish 113-pounds at the Class 3A, District 7 meet at Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Stevens improved his overall record to 19-4 with a 1-1 performance on Saturday that included an 8-4 victory over Adam Cook of Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals.

Sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Hunter Kalous (15-1) defeated Stevens 8-3 in the 113-pound title match but the runner-up finish was enough to send Stevens to the 3A state meet that runs February 18-20 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The runner-up finish from Stevens was the highlight of the day for Clear Creek Amana as the Clippers finished seventh with 81 points.

Jayden Massey finished third for Clear Creek Amana at 120 pounds while Ryker Jones (132), Caden Baxter (145) and Bela Upchurch (152) were all fourth.
