West Branch Pulls Away From Regina in First of Back-to-Back Meetings Between RVC Rivals

Round one of the back-to-back rivalry doubleheader went to West Branch.
Class 2A No. 10 West Branch hit 13 3-pointers and used a 22-point fourth quarter to pull away for a 67-53 win over Regina on Monday in the first of back-to-back games between the River Valley Conference South Division rivals in Iowa City.
Four different Bears scored in double figures and five different players hit a 3-pointer as West Branch improved to 15-1 on the season and in RVC play with its third consecutive win.
Regina (6-9, 6-7) got a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds from Ashton Cook but it wasn’t enough to stop the Regals from dropping a third consecutive game.
West Branch led 45-42 after three quarters but outscored the Regals 22-11 in the final frame to secure a third straight win in the series.
Simon Palmer led West Branch with 18 points and also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists in the win.
Gavin Hierseman went 4-of-5 from 3-point range and finished with 14 points and four assists and Thomas Gould was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and had 13 points and four assists.
Freshman point guard Holden Arnaman made three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points and three assists as the Bears had 19 assists on 23 made field goals.
Jeff Bowie added nine points and five rebounds for West Branch.
Coltrae Kerschen made six 3-pointers and had 18 points for Regina while Alec Wick had four points and six assists.
Charlie Crigger had six points and six rebounds for Regina.
The two teams will play again on Tuesday in West Branch at approximately 7:30 p.m. as part of a boy/girl doubleheader.
