The Central College coaching staff seemingly spent quite a bit of time watching West Branch tape over the past several seasons.
It seems the Dutch coaches liked what they saw.
Central College picked up a second commitment from a West Branch standout in as many days on Friday when senior linebacker and kicker Cael Fiderlein announced he would play for the Dutch with a post on social media.
“Excited to announce that I will be continuing my football career at Central College,” Fiderlein wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to all my coaches, friends and my family for helping me get to this point.”
Fiederlein was a two-way starter that also excelled in special teams as a place kicker while helping West Branch to a combined 15-4 record over the past two seasons.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Fiderlein did his best work on defense leading West Branch in tackles and tying for the team lead in interceptions each of the past two seasons.
Fiderlein closed his career with 112 tackles and six interceptions and connected on 65-of-68 extra points and 11-of-15 field goals.
As a junior Fiderlein earned third-team Class 1A all-state honors as a kicker after making all seven field goal attempts and converting 44-of-45 PATs.
Fiderlein had a team-high 55.5 tackles in 11 games as a junior, recovered a fumble and intercepted three passes.
Last fall Fiderlein was even more productive making a team-high 55.5 tackles, including 32 solo stops, six tackles for loss and a sack.
Fiderlein tied for the team lead in interceptions for the second consecutive season picking off three passes from his inside linebacker spot.
A member of NCAA Division III and the American Rivers Conference, Central College went 10-2 and advanced to the second round of the Division III championships in 2019.
