Hayden Taylor won an individual title and Solon put four wresters in the top four on its way to a fourth-place team finish at the 20-team Herb Irgens Invitational on Saturday in Ida Grove.

Top-ranked Taylor won a top-two matchup over Cael Frost of Don Bosco in the 160-pount title match to help the Spartans finish fourth with 118 points.

Class 1A top-ranked Don Bosco won the team title with 298.5 points while 3A ninth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton was runner-up with 175 points and 1A No. 9 Woodbury Central was third with 155.

Class 2A top-ranked Taylor edged 1A No. 2 Frost (25-3) 3-1 in sudden victory to earn the title at 160 pounds.

Taylor posted three pins on his way to the 160-pound title match and improved to 29-0 on the season with his four wins on Saturday.

Seventh-ranked Gage Marty (26-6) finished runner-up at 220 pounds dropping a 3-1 decision to West Lyon junior Easton Fleshman in sudden victory in the title match.

Lucas TePoel added a third-place finish at 182 pounds for the Spartans while Jakobe Lahr was fourth at 152 and Nash Altman was fifth at 285.

Milo Ashbacker placed seventh at 126 and Lawson Sinnwell was seventh at 120 pounds.
