Marcus Morgan did a little bit of everything on the football field this fall.
More accurately, Morgan did a lot of everything for West High this season and everything the senior standout did he seemed to do extremely well.
The versatile Morgan headlined a list of three West High players named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association Class 4A all-state teams on Tuesday earning first team honors for the first time.
Senior receiver Grahm Goering and junior offensive lineman Liam Becher were both third-team selections for West High.
Morgan scored touchdowns rushing, passing, receiving and on an interception return this season while helping West High to a 6-1 record and a spot in the Class 4A quarterfinals.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Morgan also averaged 44.2 yards on 14 punts and was a first-team all-state selection as a punter after earning second team honors as a punter in 2018 and third-team honors as a quarterback last season.
While valuable on defense and special teams Morgan was at his best at quarterback completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,662 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions.
Morgan also rushed for 213 yards and six touchdowns, caught a 5-yard TD pass and made 14 tackles while picking off two passes.
Goering earned all-state honors for the first time after ranking in the top 10 in Class 4A in receptions (33), receiving yards (614) and receiving touchdowns (10).
The 10 touchdown receptions for Goering ranked second in Class 4A and the senior also averaged 33.5 yards on 11 kickoff returns including a 99-yarder that he took back for a touchdown.
The 6-foot, 305-pound Becher was a stalwart up front for a West High offense that averaged 386 total yards and 38 points per game.
