After months of wondering if a season would even happen or how it would look if it did the road to the UNI-Dome and a spot in the state semifinals has come into focus.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the second set of postseason football pods on Saturday afternoon giving the 16 teams in each class a look at what stands in the way of a trip to the UNI-Dome.

Your Prep Sports area teams West High, Solon and Regina are among the teams still alive in the playoffs and seeking a semifinal spot.

One of only three remaining unbeaten teams in Class 4A, West High will host sixth-ranked Dubuque Hempstead (7-1) in Class 4A Pod A.

West High defeated City High 35-7 in the second round on Friday while Dubuque Hempstead downed Liberty High 42-7.

Seventh-ranked Solon (6-2) has won six in a row and will host Independence (6-1) in Class 2 Pod D.

The 3A runner-up last season, Solon would face the winner of a matchup between last year’s 2A runner-up Waukon and Monticello with a win.

Regina (7-1) has won seven straight since a season-opening loss to 4A Pleasant Valley and will host Alburnett (6-2) on Friday in a Class A, Pod C matchup.

The other game in Class A, Pod C is a ranked matchup between No. 10 Lisbon and No. 8 Wapsie Valley.

Third-round matchups in all six classes are set for October 30 with quarterfinal contests to be played on November 6.

The final round of pods, for state semifinals to be played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls will be released on Saturday, November 7 following the completion of the quarterfinals.
