Cross Country Roundup: Regina Returns to State Meet With Runner-up Finish at 1A State Qualifier

The Regina girls cross country team is headed back to the state meet.
Class 1A top-ranked Regina finished runner-up at the state qualifying meet at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa on Thursday finishing with 38 points, 10 behind second-ranked Pekin which won the team title.
Sophomore Mya Whitaker finished runner-up in 21:36.3 to lead five Regina runners in the top 16.
Josie Pursley was 11th in a time of 22:54.2 while Natalie Franklin was 12th in 23:18 and Allison Hein was 13th in 23:40.
Josie Voss added a 16th place finish in a time of 24:10.8.
In the boys race sixth-ranked Pekin won the title with 56 points while Columbus finished runner-up with 77 points to claim the second spot at the state meet.
Regina was fifth with 120 points.
Dan Maley led Regina placing 23rd in a time of 19:40.
