Cross Country Roundup: West High Returns to Action at Challenging Southeast Polk Invite

In its return to action after a three-week layoff the West High girls cross country team finished ninth behind eight ranked teams at the Southeast Polk Invitational on Thursday in Pleasant Hill.
Class 4A third-ranked West Des Moines Valley won the team title with 43 points followed by fourth-ranked Waukee with 82 and No. 5 Southeast Polk with 90.
3A No. 12 Dallas Center-Grimes was fourth, 4A No. 15 West Des Moines Dowling was fifth followed by No. 7 Ankeny.
West High was ninth with 248 points behind ranked 3A teams Carlisle and Atlantic.
Vicki Carrica placed 43rd in a time of 21:21.4 to lead West High while Mattie Harms was 48th in 21:47.1.
Carlisle junior Ainsley Erzen won the individual title by more than six seconds finishing in 18:40.7.
