Newton Can’t Slow Navara as Clear Creek Amana Stops Road Skid

Clear Creek Amana used the comforts of playing at home to get back on track last week.
On Friday the Clippers took their success on the road.
Clear Creek Amana snapped a five-game road losing skid with a 41-14 win over Newton (0-5, 0-3) on Friday in a Class 3A, District 6 contest at H.A. Lynn Stadium in Newton.
The win was the second straight for Clear Creek Amana (3-2) and the first win away from home for the Clippers since a 35-13 victory at Fort Madison on September 13 of 2019.
Senior quarterback Ryan Navara ran for three touchdowns and accounted for 254 total yards on Friday as the Clippers improved to 2-1 in district play.
Navara was brilliant on Friday, completing 12-of-16 passes for 159 yards as Clear Creek Amana piled up a season-high 477 yards of offense.
The senior signal caller had rushed for 95 yards with all three of his carries going for touchdowns.
Navara had touchdown runs of 15, 21 and 60 yards helping the Clippers rush for a season-best 300 yards.
Figueroa rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown and Gage Freeman added 69 yards and a score in the 300-yard rushing effort.
Navara got the Clippers on the board with a 15-yard touchdown run with 6:22 left in the opening quarter.
Freeman made it 14-0 with a 43-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter.
Figueroa had a 46-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Navara put Clear Creek Amana up 28-0 at intermission with a 20-yard scoring jaunt.
The final touchdown of the game for Navara, a 60-yard scamper with 8:30 left in the third quarter gave Clear Creek Amana a 35-0 cushion.
The Clear Creek Amana defense forced four turnovers with Jayden Massey and Ethan Pegump each picking off passes for the Clippers and Harrison Rosenberg collecting an interception and recovery a fumble.
Will Haughey had a sack as Clear Creek Amana made seven tackles for loss. Nate Beckmann had a team-high 6.5 tackles with a stop for loss while senior Anthony Hennes had six tackles, including four solo stops.
Clear Creek Amana closes out the season with back-to-back home games against Oskaloosa (1-4, 0-3) on Friday and Grinnell (4-1, 3-0) in its season finale.
