Clear Creek Amana Gets on Track With Win Over Muscatine

Giving the ball away on offense doomed Clear Creek Amana in a season-opening loss to Mount Pleasant.
Taking the ball away on defense helped the Clippers get back on track in week two.
Clear Creek Amana forced four turnovers on Friday and turned three into touchdowns on its way to a 41-21 win over Muscatine (0-2) at Clipper Field in Tiffin.
The Clippers scored the first 27 points of the second half to break open a 14-14 halftime tie, including three touchdowns in less than nine minutes to open the fourth quarter.
Three different Clippers threw touchdown passes, all to different receivers, and Alex Figueroa ran for more than 100 yards for the second week in a row as Clear Creek Amana moved to 1-1 on the season.
Clear Creek Amana scored on its opening possession with senior quarterback Ryan Navara capping the march with a 5-yard touchdown pass to TJ Bollers with 6:57 left in the first quarter.
The Clippers took advantage of their first take away of the game less than 30 seconds later.
Senior defensive back Mason Stanfield picked off a Jake Draves pass on the first Muscatine offensive play of the game.
Clear Creek Amana wasted no time turning the interception into points.
On the first play following the interception Bollers took a backward pass from Navara and threw a 51-yard touchdown to Harrison Rosenberg to give the Clippers a 14-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.
Muscatine tied the score at 14 on a 5-yard touchdown run by tailback Mentor Cooper and a 1-yard plunge by Draves.
It remained tied until the third quarter when Clear Creek Amana turned another Muskie miscue into points.
Senior linebacker Nate Beckman hopped on a Cooper fumble at the Muscatine 25 yard line and Figueroa turned the fumble into points with a 2-yard touchdown run that put the Clippers up for good.
Gage Freeman made it 27-14 with a 14-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter and Figueroa added another touchdown run, a 13-yarder with 8:50 left to put the Clippers up 34-14.
Clear Creek Amana tacked on another late score when Ben Swails and Bryce Mougin connected for an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Figueroa finished with 112 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries while Navara was efficient completing 13-of-20 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
Rosenberg had four receptions for 104 yards and a score, Tom Johnson caught three passes for 21 yard and Bollers had four grabs for 19 yards and a score.
Stanfield picked off two passes and Swails also had an interception to lead the Clipper defensive effort.
Beckman had a team-high eight tackles to go with his fumble recovery while Freeman had seven tackles including a sack and two tackles for loss.
Anthony Hennes had 6.5 tackles with two going for loss.
