City High split a pair of matches at its own triangular on Thursday sweeping Johnston and falling to Class 4A third-ranked Marion.

The Little Hawks moved to 1-2 on the season with their performance on Thursday while Johnston defeated Marion in the other match.

City High opened with a 25-22, 25-16 win over Johnston before falling to Marion 25-19, 25-19 in the finale.

Claire Ernst led the Little Hawks with 13 kills on the evening and added 14 digs and a pair of ace serves.

Alia Vanderhoef had nine kills in the two matches for City High while Makayla Ribble had 35 assists, 12 digs and two ace serves.

Maya Morales collected 21 digs and had a pair of ace serves and Ruby McDonough had an ace block and six block assists.
