Softball Roundup: Maiers, Jones Help Liberty High Sweep Cedar Rapids Xavier

Kara Maiers continued her mastery and Miranda Jones had a big night as Liberty High swept Cedar Rapids Xavier in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in North Liberty.
Maiers tossed a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 win in the opener and Jones homered and drove in four runs on the night as Liberty High completed the sweep with a 4-3 in in the nightcap.
Liberty High improved to 14-8 with the sweep and snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Saints which dropped to 13-9 on the season with their first loss since June 29.
Maiers continued her string of strong starts striking out 13 in a complete game four hitter in the opener.
The junior right-hander walked one while improving her record to 8-2 on the season.
Jones provided all the offense Maiers would need early on.
Brylee Klosterman led off the Liberty High first inning with a triple and Jones gave the Lightning a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer.
Jones had a hit and drove in two more runs in the nightcap as Liberty High completed the sweep.
Kinsley Robertson earned the win, allowing three unearned runs on six hits while striking out six and Maiers struck out the final two hitters to pick up the save.
Klosterman tripled and scored a run and Raquel Trolliet and Tiffany Jones each had hits and drove in runs in in the win.
